The 2nd Amendment

“The Second Amendment ensures all the others” becomes even more true in times when “fellow American” means less.

I’m not a hardline 2nd Amendment guy like I once was, since increasingly I’m filled with doubt as to whether the original spirit of the 2nd Amendment is applicable in a time when private local militias are rare and most of the things private local militias used to do are now done by centralized police and military forces which are in turn controlled by the government.

But newer justifications of the right to keep and bear arms – whether for self-defense or recreation – seem entirely legitimate. And, if militias of yore have morphed into aspects of our modern government, then the arming of private citizens, even when not organized into militias, is especially critical as a blockade against tyranny.
